ABOUT

Purpose of the Forum

Laughter Yoga, originating in India in 1995, has gained global recognition as a practice that enables individuals to laugh intentionally, without relying on humor or language. Its benefits—ranging from physical and mental well-being to the enhancement of interpersonal communication—have been widely observed across diverse populations.

Despite its growing presence, the social and academic value of laughter remains underrecognized. Since 2010, we have organized the National Laughter Yoga Conference in Japan, providing a platform for practitioners to exchange insights and experiences. These gatherings have also fostered engagement with medical research on laughter. In recent years, the need for interdisciplinary academic inquiry—including perspectives from psychology, sociology, and related fields—has become increasingly apparent.

In response to these developments, the 2024 conference held at Waseda University was renamed the "Laughter Forum", reflecting a borader approach to exploring the potential of laughter from diverse perspective. Concurrently, we established The Society of Laughter Innovation as a general incorporated association to connect academic reserch with practical application and to ensure ongoing engagement and dissemination.

The second edition of the forum will take place in Kitakyushu, incorporating not only health and laughter, but also tourism as a new interdisciplinary focus. As the first international iteration of the event, we welcome participants from around the world under the new title, "The Global Laughter Forum".

At the 2nd Global Laughter Forum, we will share insights and tools for living a richer and more creative life by harnessing the positive power of laughter, together with participants from diverse backgrounds.

 2nd Global Laughter Forum Theme:
How the world can be seenfrom laughter yoga

2nd Global Laughter Forum Conference Chair

Associate Professor, Department of Tourism and  Culture Seinan Jo Gakuin University

Naohisa Kakutani
Welcome to Kitakyushu!

We are delighted to host the 2nd Global Laughter Forum here in Kitakyushu, continuing the tradition of the long-standing National Laughter Yoga Conference.

This event has been made possible through the compassionate support and cooperation of Seinan Jo Gakuin University, the Kitakyushu Convention & Visitors Association, those involved in laughter yoga, and the local community. We extend our sincere gratitude to all of you.

Kitakyushu is a city with a rich industrial history that once supported Japan’s economic growth.
Today, it has transformed into a vibrant city where nature, culture, and warm-hearted people coexist in harmony.

In recent years, growing attention has been paid to new values such as well-being, rediscovering local communities, and the integration of health and tourism. We firmly believe that the combination of “Health × Laughter × Tourism” represents an emerging trend for the future of society.

This forum aims to reexamine laughter from scientific, practical, and cultural perspectives.
It highlights laughter not only as a contributor to mental and physical health, but also as a means of revitalizing communities and rebuilding human connections.
Furthermore, this marks the first time the forum is being held as an international event.

We are honored to welcome participants from abroad and to demonstrate that the power of laughter transcends language and cultural boundaries, offering hope for all humanity.

In this city of Kitakyushu, let us reflect together on what kind of value we can create for our society—now and into the future—through the simple yet profound theme of “laughter.”

We look forward to meeting you all.
